Scientific and Ethics Committee Member

The independent committee required by Article III of the Scientific and Ethics Oversight Framework. It must be seated before any Herbal Trials study can open, its seats are empty today, and filling them is the single thing blocking the research. Not fewer than five members, including at least one with primarily scientific qualifications, at least one with primarily non-scientific qualifications, and at least one who is wholly unaffiliated with Herbal Trials. Expertise sought across clinical-trial methodology, pharmacognosy, bioethics, toxicology, and statistics.

An independent oversight seat, not paid work. Seats like this one are served as advisory or volunteer service. Herbal Trials does not pay for them, because money from the organization being overseen would compromise the independence the seat exists to provide.

Important boundaries

  • The Committee is not yet seated. No study has opened, and none can until it is.
  • Members review protocol design, botanical standards, manuscripts, and evidence grading. They do not conduct the research they review.
  • Under Article 3.4 of the Framework, no officer, director, funder, or other person may override a Committee determination except through a documented appeal to a second independent ethics committee.
  • Item-level recusal is required for any review in which a member has a material conflict, and members sign annual conflict-of-interest disclosures.
  • This is an unpaid independent oversight seat. Paying for it would compromise the independence it exists to provide.

What we’ll ask you

These seats exist to keep the organization honest with itself. Everyone also answers a few shared questions on research integrity and why this work. You answer these in your private portal after verifying your email — a reviewer reads them, and they’re never scored by a machine.

  • What does genuine independence look like for this seat, and what ties of yours might test it?
  • Describe a governance, ethics, or oversight call you made that protected an organization or its subjects, even at a cost.
  • Where do you think a young botanical-research nonprofit is most likely to fool itself, and how would you guard against that?
  • What expertise or perspective would you specifically add to this body? (optional)
Never upload Social Security numbers, tax or bank details, or patient records. Herbal Trials does not sell supplements, make efficacy claims, or provide medical advice, and does not endorse any substance. Candidate substances remain unverified until studied.
