Governance and oversight seats are not ordinary volunteering. They are appointments — made through a defined process, with conflict-of-interest review, independence classification, terms, charters, recusals, and minutes. They exist to protect participants and the integrity of the research.
Conflict-first, and genuinely independent
Botanical research attracts people with industry ties. That is not automatically disqualifying, but it must be disclosed, reviewed, and managed. Every advisory candidate completes a conflict-of-interest and independence disclosure before any appointment, and independent bodies — like a data and safety monitoring board — are kept independent by design.
